How to Remove Lip Stain Without Wrecking Your Lips

How to Remove Lip Stain Without Wrecking Your Lips

Cooling Water Jelly Tint may stain, but rest assured, its sheer burst of color only lasts as long as you want it to. We get that thinking about how to remove lip stain from lips and cheeks can be daunting. But trust us—we formulated Jelly Tint to come right off when you’re ready to wipe your canvas clean. All you need to do is follow these two easy steps with some skincare staples.

Promise: the removal process is just as simple and satisfying as swiping it on.

How to Remove Lip Stain From Skin

1. Use an oil-based cleanser

First, you’ll want to reach for a cleansing balm or cleansing oil to start breaking down the long-wearing pigments of Cooling Water Jelly Tint. We love Hydro Ungrip Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm for this step. The nourishing formula is spiked with non-comedogenic sunflower and soybean oils, which are “more soluble with the natural oils of our skin, so they can help pick up and remove makeup,” says cosmetic chemist Amanda Lam. Best of all, they do so without tugging or irritating skin. For those with oily skin, have no fear—you can definitely use this cleansing balm. It’s suitable for all skin types.

Scoop a dime-sized amount of the oil-based balm into dry hands (a little goes a long way), and gently massage it onto dry skin. Be sure to focus on the areas where you applied Cooling Water Jelly Tint. Then, add some water to your face to emulsify the silky oils into a milky lather before rinsing it off with warm water. For a more spa-like experience, Sara Wren, Milk Makeup’s Director of Artistry, likes to carefully wipe it off with a damp washcloth.

2. Water-Based Cleanser

There likely won’t be any bits left after that, but for insurance, follow up the oil-based cleanser with a water-based cleansing foam or micellar water, like Hydro Ungrip Cleansing Water. This second step will melt away any remaining pigment (if there is any) and excess oil on your skin, Amanda says. “Doubling up on cleansers is the best bet for removing the long-lasting color provided by cheek and lip stains,” she adds.

The fragrance-free formula of Hydro Ungrip Cleansing Water releases any pigments still gripping to your skin with the help of blue agave exact, which acts almost as a magnet to gently lift away that Jelly Tint stain from your face. “It’s ungripping without stripping,” says Dianna Ruth, our Co-founder and COO. “It gives you a clean feel without a drying sensation.”

Soak a reusable cotton pad (like our Hydro Ungrip Reusable Pads) into the solution. Then, gently press it against your face before swiping it across your skin; again, targeting your lips and cheeks. From there, you can continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

Told you—it’s easy to remove. Now take these tips and go and live your best jelly life.
